Hi to all. I`m Chris and my other half (Dawn or Dee as many online friends call her)are new to keeping snakes, or any reptile for that matter. We have a new viv set up (3ft) and have just purchaced two Royal Pythons. Both babies (june this year)and we have a male and female. Although Andy our local Reptile dealer wont allow us to take them home untill they have both taken a least two feeds, as they were new arrivals today (Thur)from his supplier. We have both been trying to decide on names for them and perhaps you guys here might like to post some ideas here for us. We have looked at Greek gods and other mythical names and some stupid and silly corny ones lol but nothing has jumped out at us yet...so come on please help and give us some good names :)
One thing I forgot to ask at the shop is wether both snakes came from the same bath of eggs. I know its a year or two before they are able to breed, but I wouldn`t like the idea of brother and sister breeding. But I`n sure Andy would have mentioned this had it been the case. I`m sure over time myself and Dee will be asking many questions here and look forward to many years of raising our new babies into strong adults. Will post some pics as soon as we get them home. They are both deep brown and tan type in colour and markings, rather than the more pale coloured type.
Regards,
Chris. |

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum, do you know if these snakes are bred in the uk or flown in from Africa?
With regards to breeding, in-breeding is not as problematic in reptiles as it is in mammals say. |

I was under the impression they they are UK bred, but will find out over the weekend. Our supplier also breeds them albeit on a smaller scale. Thanks for the feedback as regards to in-breeding. But will find out for sure when we visit again :) |

Welcome to the forum Chris and Dawn. Congrats on your impending arrivals too. As for names, its always difficult to suggest for other people. You could try matching names to reflect their being a pair (Yin and Yang? Ice and Cream? Ebony & Ivory? See and Saw? Terry & June?) Or if you prefer traditional names try looking up baby name guides online |
Alanna With Maya, Stan & Lucie (Alaskan Malamutes), Bruce (Royal Python) and Keith (fiance, lol). |

Ha ha ha, Terry and June, I already suggested that as names lol. Its not as easy to name snakes as it is kittens is it! Going back to the shop today as Andy is going to try feeding them today, would like to take some pics and maybe a little video of them both. They are easy to tell apart due to their markings. Mine (the girl) is way prettier to look at than sooty's (:-)).
I am so glad to have found this site, Chris agrees with me that its the best of the two we found. Just one thing - if you don't mind - would some explain how to use that number system I see at the bottom of the posts - and yes, I did read the thread explaining it but still didn't grasp it. A couple of examples would have been good, then I may have got it. So, I have one female royal and chris has one male royal, how would that be written? and how would it be written if we claimed both - eg: that I have one male and one female royal?
Many thanks in advance.
Hugs,
Dee |

Thanks for the welcome messages. Well we went back this afternoon and as promised here are one or two pics. The first two pics is the wee boy and the other two pics are the girl. No names as yet, but hopefully we will have chosen them over the weekend. The guy in the shop did try to offer them some food. One did strike for it but didnt take it while we were there. Hopefully they will have taken it by the morning.
Chris

How cute. They are lovely when they are so small. If I could have one that stayed like that forever i'd be happy! |

Well they may not have fed whilst we were there but we checked on the wee devils this morning and to our delight they had eaten overnight. One feed down one or two more to go then we can bring our babies home :-) |

Aren't they both just adorable I can see what you mean about the differing markings too - very pretty! I bet you just can't wait to have them home - especially now they've fed. Settled on any names yet? |

Oooooooooooh, I named my baby girl Zith and she came home with me tonight. Unfortunately Sooty has to wait for his baby boy to start eating before he can bring him home, he has named him but I will let him tell you all what he called his boy. |
