Hi Everyone,
I've just put down a deposit on a male (normal) royal. We've had our corn snake for a couple of months, she's 4/5 months old but my husband just thinks she's too small and quick for him! I saw Monty as he will be called (we asked our toddler which name she liked and Monty it was - I bet you've never heard of that for a python before, haha!) and after handling him fell in love. This is somewhat of a small miracle since my husband wanted a snake and had to really persuade me since I had a slight fear of them, then Delilah our corn snake totally converted me and then I've been researching the best 'bigger' snake for hubby until I found Monty and straight away had a cuddle. The owner of the reptile shop who bred our corn snake couldn't believe the difference in my confidence. I've become an addict already! Monty is just under 2 years old and was bought for breeding by a customer but as soon as he smells a female he goes off his food no matter what time of the year it is and since he was starting to loose weight they decided he had to go to a pet home where he would be by himself. He has been seperated from them now in the reptile shop (they have sold him for the customer as they knew them) and he's been strike feeding every week ever since. He's so much different to a corn snake much more to our liking - laid back and chunky (just like us both!). Can't wait to set up his vivarium and make sure everything is perfect before collecting him next week!

1.1 Dog (Rocco the Rottie & Jinx the Staffie)
1.0 Cat (Mr Darcy)
0.1 Caramel Corn snake (Delilah)
1.0 Normal Royal (Monty....coming soon!)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Royal Pythons.

Don't be surprised if by this time next year, you'll have 10 of them.

I'm snakephobic too. I still am, actually. But, I love these creepy crawlies. We have 7 snakes now (2 years later). I still can't handle the snakes by myself (yes, I'm a baby) but they're in my home office where I spend most of my day. So, okay, they're usually hiding at that time, but they venture out for a drink once in a while.

Good luck!

Snake owner since Oct 2008, so yeah, I'm no expert.

Well we're nearly ready to receive Mr Monty! Got the viv today fresh from the joiner through our exotics shop. Now all I have to do is sort out the orchid bark in the oven (may wait till my tea's been cooked!), then disinfect his viv, hides etc and connect his bulb, guard and stat....may take a while I shall be aided by a toddler who so far has claimed the empty 3ft viv as her own hidey hole! Thanks for all the welcomes - love this forum

Aw, there's nothing like it, the planning and the waiting ... uh well, Shahi was a bit of an impulse buy, waited only a couple of days ... that was long enough!(Couldn't resist him - he told me it was Meant!)

By the way, Delilah (love the name!) may be small and quick at the moment but you should see the chunky and laid back corns that joined this household as nippy little bootlaces a year ago!

Don't think you will regret getting a royal though - they are truly gorgeous! Welcome home Monty!

well I felt like a total plank getting the viv sorted for our arrival today - didn't realise the viv had to be a certain way up for the glass to fit properly and whilst getting it upstairs we must have turned it upside down. I had everything sorted and even screwed on the bulb guard etc (I am female and wanted to prove to hubby that I could do DIY) it looked beautiful then went to put the glass in and realised the viv was upside down...............what an idiot! Its sorted now as hubby came home and fixed it. Anyway once he gets home today we're off to collect monty amd see if he like his new home. Not sure how I'll manage to wait 7 days though before handling (don't worry I will) I always get impatient for the 48hrs no handling after food with our corn snake.
