Hi and welcome, and welcome to other new members as well - sorry I haven't kept up with everyone's posts lately (rearranging house round 8 snakes and spring cleaning too.)

I'd never heard of the aesculapian but found out that it is a species of rat snake - lovely snake - and, to my interest, I see that it has colonised itself in London (escapees from Regent's Park Zoo) and also North Wales.

My brother in law lives near Betws y Coed and regularly sees slow worms - must ask him to keep his eyes open for aesculapians!

Hope these guys survived the two recent hard winters - nice to have another wild snake in the country ... yeah I know not technically native, but plenty of species aren't ... grey squirrels for example! And aren't there wallabies in Derbyshire?
