I know sticks/ branches etc can be poisonous to Royals but everytime I read up on a certain type of tree or wood it seems theyre all toxic. So, i saw B.E's post on preparing wood in the diy section, if you do that with any tree branch would it make it safe for Royals? Heres the link
http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=713

I paid 20 quid on a big piece of wood with branches and what I got was a glorified twig! I was going to send it back but the time i paid postage and a box etc it wasnt worth my while. I need a couple o big bits for Sedricks viv but dont fancy payin £50 for them if i can do it myself

I use apple tree branches, stripped. There is a good sticky on the corn snake forum about toxic plants and wood in the health section.

I bought a java wood parot perch for my boa from a pet shop. Its huge, 3 branches on it and bolts to the side of the viv wall, it looks like a tree! I paid £11. Deal!

Java wood is fabulous - I got Saada plus setup for £150 - including 3' viv, caged bulb, dimmer stat, mopani roots, loads of plants, exoterra accessories - and about £30 or more of java wood ... I think there was £150 of setup, never mind Saada ...

Before I started on the forums, having read in my corn snake book that the writers utilised wood found in the great outdoors, I will confess I brought wood home (mercifully not conifer!) baked it for weeks by a radiator and used that.

Now, unless I ever feel rich enough to buy java wood (wood rather buy a snake lol) I use that flexible reptile vine, doubled and twisted to form a thick bendy branch. I attach it to the viv walls with screw eyes and thick cord. Artificial leaves can be added, it really looks quite good.

As far as I'm aware any fruit wood is fine and not toxic as long as it hasn't been treated with pesticides etc. I've used prepared branches off my mams plum tree for my pet rats and hamsters. They love to chew on it and I've never had a poorly furry from using it.

Just me and my zoo.

Cheers B.D Im going to strip it, scrub it to remove any oils then steep it for a few hours in 10% bleach then rinse and dry but will be rinsing and drying a few times i dont trust bleach so will make doubley sure its washed away. After that to top it off i'll spray it with the rep disinfectant to put my mind at rest.

Went wood shopping at the grave yard yesterday and got (for the prices ive seen on the internet) what would have cost about £150 so quite a few to choose from.
