Hi everyone, I'm new on here. I got my first royal (and snake all together)with my boyfriend a week ago today. We don't know the sex but have decided to call him/her Dio in honour of Ronnie James Dio (boyfriends choice). He's about 6 months old and weighs 200g. I'm what you would call a part time owner as Dio lives with my boyfriend as my house mate doesn't like snakes and i don't think my pet rat Asti would like him very much either. |

Hi, Dio, and welcome to the forum - hmmm, yes, might not be a good idea to introduce Dio and Asti, just in case Dio thought, ah, dinner!
This is a brilliant forum, loads of info, has helped me a lot and I hope it helps you too. |

Thank you. I don't think i have to worry about him eating Asti any time soon as she's definately bigger than him at the moment. |

Hi and welcome :) and btw, don't be so confident about Dio and Asti relationship, because you'll be surprised how snake can swallow a big prey ... |

Believe me they won't be meeting. If asti's reaction to the last time we got her out with any other animal other than another rat was anything to go by it would not be a good idea. Lets just say it was probably a good thing the owners of the guinea pig we were looking after were delayed buy an extra 2 weeks so no evidence of the attack were present. |

Oo, your Asti sounds like a little asbo! (The best sort, I often find - poor guinea pig though.) I love rats - I once spent Christmas Eve cuddling a friend's large brown rat. Called Fatima ...
I always apologise to the snakes' frozen rats ... |

Rats are great pets. In my experience males are better as they are more docile than females. Asti's a right nutter and you can do anything to her and she'll just run back for more.
Thats one thing i'm not looking forward to with Dio is when he's big enough to be fed rats. My boyfriend will definately be doing the feeding then. |
