Been lurking here a while so time for me to say hello!

Got 2 corns, Betty and Sanchez, and am looking to get a Royal after much deliberation and reading over the past few months (and lots of arm twisting and bribing of the boyfriend lol!)

Got a 9l rub ready and waiting and a load of spare hides etc, looking to probably be getting a late CB10, worst case just means me buying a bigger rub for an older or larger one!

read the thing about thermal blocking... is this only something to worry about when its older and larger? (basically, would a heat mat on a stat be ok for a hatchie, and when is it time to switch to reptile radiator or ceramic)... i think that's the only thing i am really unclear on.. the care sheet on here is fab!

so ... hello!

hello and welcome

the heat mat would go under the rub so the snake wouldn't come in contact with the heat mat so you don't need to worry about thermal blocking. a heat mat on a stat for a hatchie would be fine. you only need to use a ceramic if and when you move the snake into a viv

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Lots of info on here about heating ... I'll just add that royals save up their dump etc and only part with it on special occasions ie shedding and sometimes in between, which means a dunghill and a tsunami ...

Even with a royal of modest size, a heatmat may get somewhat swampy ...

ooh that's good! i wasn't planning on a viv til he/she's fully grown anyway so gives me plenty time to save the pennies for it and the correct heating system!

eeeeuuuuwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww hahah i'm sure they like to poop in the warmest place at the worst time as well so they can fester up a lovely smell for when you find it!! will make a change from my corns who have both decided that i make a brilliant toilet!

LOL - yes, a corn's mission in life is to dump on people! Even when you're sure they're empty, they call on the spare tank!

My ex always maintained he was phobic and that my snakes would eat me. After seeing the corns in action, he's not afraid of being strangled or bitten any more, but he's terrified of being crapped on!

trust me you dont know the half of it with this bloody fish, he's not at all normal!!

i have such a boring weekend ahead of me, i'm absolutely dyeing to get my royal!!! but i have to wait as my mum's bf is making me some RUB shelves (but i don't go up to see them til next weekend) and at the moment i havent got anywhere suitable to put him aarrghh..

i hate the waiting game haha! i'm also excited for next weekend as my mum is getting a new puppy after having a very large hole in our lives for 2 years when our previous dog was put to sleep. i might have to steal him and bring him home though! i really hate the fact that i wont be having my own dog for years, i can only find work in London, but will never be able to afford to buy a decent sized home with a garden for them to play in...even really far out.. having a dog is as important to me as having kids is to other people and it makes me really sad...i am just so glad i can at least have my snakes and my big lump of a goldfish in this flat ! gosh what a moaning post that was sorry!!
