I must admit, I've been lurking for a while, getting lots of great advice and enjoy all of the royal stories and photos. Anyway, I thought it was about time that I introduced myself and my beautiful girl Bambi

(Hopefully the photo will work and be the right size! And sorry for the poor quality, it was taken on my phone)

I got her at the end of June after persuading my parents (and landlord and housemates) that she would be the perfect 21st birthday present...and indeed she was!

She is a CB normal and, according to the exotic pet shop that I got her from, she is about 9 months old, although I'm not sure that that is completely accurate as she seems quite small for that age - 2'3" and 175g (but admittedly my scales are very dodgy so that could be wrong!) She hasn't missed a feed with me yet and she is getting noticeably heavier and stronger so I'm not too worried about her size as she seems very healthy. Does this seem small for her age to any of you? Could it be possible that she is actually younger than I was told?

Hi and welcome to the forum, and welcome Bambi, pretty girl!

Royals do vary in size as you'll see on the link below:-

http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4437

I have a girl, Saada, who was 20 months and 300g when she came to me. Often shops feed royals less than we would which may account for it, but I think that size just does vary too. Whatever size - they're all lovely!

Thanks!

I think that was the case as the shop were feeding her a mouse fuzzy once a week and gave me a load to carry on feeding at that size, which were very small. After a few feeds she was munching two a week and is now on medium mice which seem a good size in comparison to her girth.

I don't care how big she is though, as long as she is healthy...I'll love her whatever size she does/doesn't reach!

Yes, a medium mouse is about right, according to my supplier's table of weights it's 20g.(They vary from supplier to supplier though.)

Blackecho on this forum gives a very good guide recommending 10/15% of the snake's weight. A rat fluff would be good too, as rats grow bigger and it's much easier to feed the right sized rat when the snake's older - mice only get to 45g approx.

All the best with her, she's lovely.

Yes, that is the plan. I'm going to be moving house soon so I was going to wait until she has settled in in the new place and has had a few feeds there before trying her on rats. Hopefully it won't be too difficult as she isn't a very fussy eater...I'm not sure she is aware that she is a royal!
