Hi

I have a royal whom I have had for approx 6 weeks. he has just been fed tonight and whilst feeding his prey burst causing some of its insides to spill out. as he was eating some of the bark i use for the bottom of his viv got stuck which he then ended up eating. He seems fine apart from he keeps rubbing the side of his head against the viv floor and the log in there. he has never done this before and I am a little worried about the bark he has swallowed. will this harm him?

thanks

If its been swallowed and not stuck in his mouth, then It "should" be ok. The rubbing could be down to him being "in shed" ?

personally i wouldn't worry about a little bit of substrate, they are bound to ingest some in the wild. mine on time to time ingest a small amount and it doesn't seem to do them any harm

Hi and welcome to the forum. I've seen mine rub their faces like that if their meal has proved to be a bit messy, or even just after a drink of water; it's the only way they can dry their faces. Though shedding could be a possibility too.

Thanks hun. Just worried as he is my first snake. just had a look at him now and he seems to be settled. He is not in his shed mode as he just shed 2 weeks ago.

Thanks again for putting my mind at rest

welcome to the forum, seems your mind has been put at rest!

Mine is terrible for hauling his rat all over the show and once got a big piece of aspen stuck in his big gob, luckily was just sticking out the side a little so the little sod-i mean-soldier held his head up so i could just pull it out carefully with my tweezers. but don't stress, in the wild no-one give them a plate :) or a bib in your messy snakie's case! :D but always best to be on the cautious side :)

and pics please!

Hi and welcome to the forum
Being worried is a must in your first royal i think, they just like to see us worrying about them untill we figuer out the game but then u see that everything is going great, u just have to understand thier life and the way they live it
