Hi and welcome. As above the caresheet is brilliant as a starting point. First decide if you want a KING snake or a Royal PYTHON, 2 different snakes with very different personalities.
Royals make good first snakes as they are very placid but you do have to be patient with them. A super first snake is a corn snake, they are the best of everything as snakes go, smallish, good temperament, many many different colours (morphs) available and so easy to look after they practically look after themselves. |

well spotted i meant a royal python. thanks for clearing that up lol. i did handle a couple of corn snakes in the shop yesterday and they are very quick. i was planning a corn snake mainly due to the small size but think the royal might be better. |

i have looked through some of the forum especially at the pics and so many of the snakes seem to be the same kind of colour brown with golden pattern. the one i am thinking of getting is much darker than those i have seen on here. is the dark colour something that lightens as they grow and shed or just a different colour?? he is 6 months old and various shades of chocolate brown. |

They come in all sorts of colours, from nearly all white, yellow, to very dark brown
