picked up monty on saturday his eyes were blue and the guy told me he was in shed
his eyes cleared and today he has shed but not all of it has come off
its feeding day today too and the rat is defrosting ready for tonight!
shall i leave him to finish the shed on his own?
do you think he will still eat tonight?

Congrats on getting him and welcome Monty - if his tailtip and eyecaps are off, yes, don't worry too much. See if he'll feed (not to worry if he doesn't take the first feed or two) and then if he does eat, give him at least 48 hours to digest, and don't worry too much about the stuck shed.

It's a good guide not to handle until after 3 consecutive feeds, but if there's a lot of stuck shed, get a damp pillowcase, put him in it, knot it at the top and put snake and pillowcase in a lidded ventilated rub in a warm room for 20 minutes, supervised. Brief handling like this won't hurt, and he should squirm in the pillowcase and the friction of the damp material should help the stuck skin off.

All the best with him.

No, you don't need to move anything. I feed in-viv and prefer to disturb them as little as possible. If you're worried about him ingesting substrate you could put down something like a piece of cardboard or a pet feeding mat - although they'll always do their best to pull the rat into the corner lol. But watch out for stuff like silk leaves that could get mixed up with the rat - on one of his first feeds with me, Shahi somehow managed to get a leaf in his teeth and start taking it down ...but he's thick, bless him!

Wow that bark always seems to contain bugs - lots of people have noticed compost gnats and the like. No, they won't hurt the snake, but you might notice the humidity's a bit too high. In normal humidity (same as a warm room) those critters will die out; it's having been moist and sealed up in a plastic bag that's kept them going. Some people bake half the bark first to help dry it out and your viv heat will do the rest. I'm afraid I've never used it though and I don't know how to bake it, apart from spreading it out on a baking sheet and keep turning it, but I don't know what oven temp or for how long - hopefully someone will come along soon who does.

I use aspen for most of mine, but the two smallest corns are on kitchen roll as I can never spot their droppings in the aspen so makes them easier to spot on paper. I just like the look of aspen - except it gets everywhere, like cat litter lol.
