Ive been lucky so far since keeping snakes i havent had any power issues , however we got a note through the door yesterday saying our power supplier was going to be doing some work meaning our power supply may be interrupted between 8am and 4pm and they will try and keep this disrupption to a minimum .
Any tips on how i can keep the snakes warm while this happens ? i will loose the boiler so will have no heating . maybe i will have to get in the vivs and keep them all warm lol!
any advice much appreciated :) |

| They will be absolutely fine, they deal with cold quite well in the short term. Your vivs with the doors shut will hold the heat for ages after the power has gone. Just dont try handling them when cold, their defences are pretty much the only bits left running, very likely to get tagged by a cold snake. |

Ah, this is every snake-keeper's nightmare.
Have you got a gas cooker? You could put the oven on to air the place; same with a gas fire, and keep the house as hot as possible.
Plus if you have hot water bottles (and means of heating the water) you could wrap up the bottles in towels so that they can't burn the snakes, and put them in the vivs and keep changing them. If no hot water bottles, have you got any containers that could be securely closed? Glass might not be safe, but something like large sandwich boxes with lids that will clip securely (beware of steam forcing a loose lid open.) Could you borrow hot water bottles from family?
Yes, as Bob says, they can stand lower temps for a while; Shadrach and I spent a couple of hours on a very slow cold journey from Bradford; we had a wait beforehand and although he was in a polybox I was VERY glad to get him into his warm viv, and he's been fine. You could make sure your heating's turned up full belt before the work starts and keep all doors closed to get the house really hot.
Also - don't open your freezer at all, so that that stays as cold as possible and your food and theirs can't defrost.
All the best with them, and hope the electricity company's estimate is pessimistic. Fingers crossed! |

| i have some hot water bottles somewhere and can get some tubs on the go . Im hoping that it wont be off as long as they say , i imagine that it will go off at 8 as they say but im hoping its back on alot sooner than four . i may give them a call and see what they say . i havent had this problem before , love having to deal with new things . so aslong as i dont feed them even without added heat they should be alright ? |

| I think they'll be fine, and the hot water bottles will be a great help. Yes, definitely postpone feeding until temps are back to normal - and stay warm yourself. All the best! |
