Yes the cornsnake's and the brazilian rainbow boa's share a microclimate 300w thermostat as they have the same temps , And I have a spare dimmer for my Royal when it comes will be connected up , I have already tested the dimmer for the royal's setup and all is working well.

Correct ^^

Confused.com for a moment, got my Boa and the BRB's confused, my Boa needs the same as the royal (almost).

Well all is well if temps are good, you can just get filling the tubs with Royal now and decide what next.

I was eyeing up a burm today, was so tempted but told myself it was a ridiculous idea, stick to 7 foot max for me.

I still don't see how stacking the tubs helped but maybe it was the cold floor that affected the heat then as heat mats don't heat anything thats not touching it so stacking tubs that use heat mats would have little to no effect on ambient temp on the top tub, though the mat sitting on top of the bottom one would probably help the bottom one retain heat.

A just a little question. Do you use thermostats?

Yes it was on floor so by moving it on top of another RUB solved it.

Yes of course I use a Thermostat I have two , One Microclimate 300w Matstat and one Microclimate 600w dimmer stat , One is stuck on the side of the Viv and other other is not in use yet until I get my Royal .

I'm trying to get my head around RUB's and wasn't able to get a RUB's ambient anywhere over room temp with a heat mat (which I knew would be the case) until I sat it on top of my Royal viv which has a 100 Watt heat bulb heating up the air, the ground at the hot spot and the heat rising up heats the whole roof. I've lost my quick defrosting area but worth it to get the RUB running

From putting this RUB on top of the Pink one sorted the temps.

The Radiator you see behind is never turned on.

Edit: Forgot to add pic

Nope your at the right tree Lotabob. Ambient needs to be in the above range stated if were looking to replicate the temperature of our snakes natural environment . 12 - 16 c is just way to cold.

Can i ask how you fixed the problem Hiper2009?

Of course you can Bob, I sorted the cool end temp by moving the RUB and putting it on top of Bow's Pink RUB and that has now boosted the temp of the cold side to 24.6C which is alot better then 16C/12C , That was tested over 1day and this is now the 2nd day and the temp has gone up a tiny bit to 26.3C in cool end I think that's the best I am going to get it at.
Lotabob Posted - 18/03/2011 : 19:04:23
I looked into a RUB for a Royal but I just couldn't see how to get the air temp up so went for a viv. Decided to give RUB's a go, I have now got a RUB setup for a hatchling Boa but as I predicted the ambient wouldn't shift past 20oC. I then sat it on top of the royal viv on a towel and the heat the royal viv kicks out through the roof has heated the ambient to 25oC which is about right for the Boa. After trying a RUB setup I'm not a fan of RUB's and will only be using this one until the Royal outgrows his viv (he's not far off moving up to a three footer). For corns and other non tropical snakes the RUB's would be great but personally, not my cup of tea.

16-18 C in the cold end? Blimey thats practically arctic!

I thought the temperature range was supposed to be from 26 or 27 - 32 or 33 C?

That's how i've got mine set up.

If you take a second to read my post at the end that curly thing is a question mark I am asking a question in a current related thread, they don't shut down the second your query is solved so don't be offended if a related question pops up in your threads in the future.

Sorry if I have not made it clear enought as I thought I had covered up my setup in my induction thread. http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5438

The problem with my temps has been solved.

Actually it isn't very clear at all, you do say you'll need to put one under the cold end, so don't be an arse when someone is trying to help.

As he states, changing to a bulb would increase the cold end temp if you cannot keep the ambient up.
