I'm using a 13L RUB with few air holes in , kitchen roll substrate , water dish , two small hides , couple of loo rolls and a branch with fake foliage , do i need to add anything eles to this ?
I am using a heatmat which is stated up to a Microclimate 600w dimmer stat , with a digital thermometer/hygromemter dual probe to messure my temps.

I have sorted the temp issue I had. |

She shed 2 days after she came home and had not been given a moss box or extra humidity and shed fine apart from a retained tail tip that came off easily when I wet my hands and let her pass through them.
How old is she? Do you know her weight? What size rub is she in at the breeders/shop?
Oh thats good , And the only information I have is that there are 4 het pied's and non of them have been sexed yet until the bloke thinks that they are ready to go he will sex one that I choose , he said they are late CB10's poss from Sept or Oct last year , They was non feeders hence why they are so tiny but he has only just got them to feed from this year and he also said they are being fed small mice and they have had 4 feeds well on the 4th feed i watched that when he fed them and saw they took food , but he said he is not willing to let them go until they have had 5 feeds. So he said he shall give me a ring on monday to confirm my first pick out of the 4 for wednesday .
Oh I didn't know they were non feeders. How often are they being fed now? Fingers crossed it will continue to feed for you. You would def be best to follow the advice of no handling or contact (other than spot clean and water change) until it has taken 3 feeds from you. I personally wouldn't put it in a rub that big but thats just going from my own experience with my girl woh wasn't happy in a 9L rub. You will have to find out his/her weight and the exact month of hatch. Mine girl was september 2010 baby too so would be interested to compare.
How did you manage to sort the cold end temps out in the end?
Well I rang them up to ask the question and he said he has got 4 out of 7 to feed from mid Feb this year and they will have there 5th prey on monday then I should be able to collect on Wednesday, yes will defo get weights when I bring it home on Wednesday/Thursday.
I sorted the cool end temp by moving the RUB and putting it on top of Bow's Pink RUB and that has now boosted the temp of the cold side to 24.6C which is alot better then 16C/12C. |

Yes I never do feed on top of loose substrate , I always put a paper towel down or feed out of the encloser.
I may have some more questions for you when they pop in to my head . |

Thanks again great advice . For substrate I am using kitchen towl as I wan't to make sure it's ok then after about a month I shall put it on to Aspen , Is Aspen ok to use with a Royal , I use Aspen for my Cornsnakes. |

Im sure its 10% bleach solution for an hour then well rinsed and dried but im not too keen using bleach in case i dont clean it right. I put in a half log i have but she usually does it in her hide. It could be a good idea in yours as everything seems to be smooth
Dont worry about all the questions i was a lot worse...still am lol
Thank you so much for the help , Me either I prefer to clean my stuff with F10 as it can be much safer , I have cleaned the rock in F10 solution and then I have put it in the oven at 100C and will leave it in there for about 3 hours to kill any parasites.
Can Royals get scale rot from to much humidity ? |

Orlina sheds in 1 piece at 50% humidity but i know some snakes have a problem. What i do is if i see signs of shedding, dry nose usually with Orlina, i give her a 10-15 minute bath and that seems to do the trick
Oh right thanks for that but if in shed what do I raise the humidity % to ? Also from looking at my setup would you say I should put a piece of rock in there or just leave it how it is ?
Sorry for all the questions just want to learn as much as I can for when my royal comes home next week . |
