Hi all

I've heard so many conflicting stories regarding bites from royals and/or other, non-venomous snakes (the Boas, Corns, Kings etc.)and how painful they are, with some saying it doesn't hurt at all to the others that say it feels like their thumb was being torn off...

I've not been tagged by mine yet (not to say he hasn't tried) so i was just wondering what some of your views on it are?

When mine was going through his snappy stage i was told to just let him bite me, but I cant willingly let any animal bite me! Lol I've been bitten by a vast array of animals, weirdest being a Duck!! But i just couldn't gonna let him do it!

That's a good way of looking at it! Lol

Thats my thinking, no matter how good a Royal can hit its not going to be anything debilitating. Just a mark I can show my friends. lol.

Jesus! And I was worried about being tagged of a 9 month royal!
Lotabob Posted - 07/02/2012 : 21:56:55
Incredibly painful, I couldn't use my bitten leg for a good while as it swelled up, then split and seeped (barf) my leg looked like red marble. I had to have injections from the emergency doctor and was laid up for ages. I never even saw the snake it hit me and was gone in a flash, just the bite marks and the sudden onset of swelling and pain.

Did that hurt? I've read that it can be quite painful

I've been pooped on by my corn, right between the fingers. The smell just doesnt wash off, lol.

I've not been bit by my snakes but I've been tagged by an Adder as a child which wasn't much fun but it doesn't count as it was wild.

mines 5 months old and I've only had him for 3 weeks. at first he was striking at me every time i tried to handle but I've not been bit yet. he seems to be settling down now and once i pick him up he's fine. i just let him strike until he realises I'm not food and then he lets me pick him up. until he's properly settled in i am wearing gloves to pick him up but once he's in my hands i take the gloves off.

I've never been bite or pooped on but I've only 1 snake and only had for a year I'm sure my time will come
austin_89 Posted - 06/02/2012 : 21:52:22
I don't remember? I was a kid lol I think id rather take the bite than being pooed on! Lol
Lotabob Posted - 06/02/2012 : 21:48:25
Yeah it counts if it breaks the skin, lol.
austin_89 Posted - 06/02/2012 : 21:45:23
Ah I've been tagged by a corn, does that count?? Lol but never been pooped on
Lotabob Posted - 06/02/2012 : 21:40:23
Not been got yet by mine but in a way I cant wait for that badge of honour amongst snake keepers. There are 2 badges you have to collect before you can declare yourself a full snake keeper, you have to get pooped on (check) and you have to get bitten (one day).

try not to worry about it, TBH it was my fault as I offered her a second rat inside the viv on the end of some very short tweezers whilst she was blue.

Normally she is fed out of the viv, and she was on thos occasion also, but I had put her back and didnt want to disturb her again and with a rat left over, I thought, hell lets see if she fancies a snack. So, whose fault is it? she saw a rat, she smelt a rat, she felt the heat off my hand so she went for it. Yes, it was my fault.

Nice! Mines only 9 months old and just over 200g so i rather he bites me before he gets that big lol
markmifsud Posted - 06/02/2012 : 20:47:58
2+ kilo's of pure muscle, yes it was fun.....
austin_89 Posted - 06/02/2012 : 20:21:33
Bet that was fun
markmifsud Posted - 06/02/2012 : 20:16:38
oh yes it was, had her wrapped around my arm. I had to take her and my arm into te kitchen and run cold water over her head and then unwind her from my arm before she would accept that I wasnt dinner :)
austin_89 Posted - 06/02/2012 : 19:58:18
Was that a feeding response bite?
markmifsud Posted - 06/02/2012 : 19:50:37
Just as BATS has said, most bites are from a feeding response and not from a real desire to hurt you. And yes, I can confirm that when a big royal sinks her teeth in, it does hurt. For me it felt like I had some glass cutting into my thumb.
austin_89 Posted - 06/02/2012 : 19:35:04
Ha I do l love wildlife! When I was a kid I saw an adder while on a camping trip and on a school trip we ran into a grass snake.

Mines placid and chilled out now and were best friends I'm already eyeing up my second and third lol

I think i would rather I got bit while he's still small and young though
