Here is a question that has been on my mind since reading topics in this section......Where does one stand IF one bought a baby herp from a reputable breeder/shop only to have the new addition die (despite all conditions being to the letter) shortly after receiving it? Strange thing to think about I know, but these little cuties arent exactly cheap and I daresay such things do happen. What would you guys expect???

Most good places will take non feeders back, swap the snake or refund you if it dies within a set amount of time.

However if said snake dies the same day you bring it home. And the shop is unwilling to do anything to help. Then id say it's kinda a crappy shop.

Rather then who's right or wrong,it's good for business to just refund, help out customers etc etc.Within reason ofc hehe,ie not 8 months later etc.

If anyone is in this situation, ring the shop immediately. If they agree they will compensate all good, if not then you must get a PM done ASAP. If you dont you dont have a leg to stand on as you have to be able to prove that the snake was 'faulty'/ill before you bought it and that it wasn't you who killed it. Then the law is on your side. Without it, not so much.

Your protected by the law, "sales of goods act", it applies to everything you buy from a shop, clothes, toys and animals etc. Basically what you buy has to be fit for purpose.

The shop i was in yesterday offered to swap a guys non feeding corn as they couldn't get it feeding again either, its nice to know there are places out there like this that would do anything to help and keep a happy customer

I suppose most shops would either replace or refund ur money cause losing a few quid on a snake is better than getting a bad reputation by not doing anything about it

As Chris said, depends on the shop or breeders view really they can make the process as easy or difficult as they like.

some shops like baobab said will offer a refund straight away but others may not so you would need a post mortem to prove that the illness said snake died from was already present at the time of purchase/while in the shop

We had this happen to us. Our little corn wouldn,t eat when we got it home, so the shop offered to take her back and get her eating again, but unfortunatly she died. We weren't even considering refunds, as we just took it as one of those things that can happen. However the shop owner immediatly offered a refund or replacement.
That was Bernies in Elgin. Brilliant shop.
