Posted - 02/01/2010 : 23:05:31 i have had my royal for about 2 months now he is 2 years old and the previous owner fed him mice, i have been trying to get him to eat rats, he has taken 2 in 2 weeks both have been assists he looks like he is afraid of them but when i put the rats head in his mouth he constricts around the rat, should i give up with rats or should i keep assisting him until he strikes it? |

Posted - 03/01/2010 : 09:55:15 It does sound like he just has to get used to rats if he's eating them that easily. Have you tried defrosting a rat with a mouse in the same bag and rubbing the mouse on the rat so that it smells of mouse? |

Posted - 03/01/2010 : 00:53:54 why did you start assist feeding? was he not eating at all.? I would stop assisting if he has had no problem feeding before. and perhaps try some other methods. Assist really should be only if not feeding at all and when other methods are exhausted. here is a link to a sticky with some other methods. Hope this is of some help.good luck
