is he still classed as a hatchling he is a mid 09 i have a mat running on it but they told me to try using a bulb.. i am thinking about selling him at the moment cause i have alot on at the moment with the gecks laying eggs and stuff i dont have the time to be looking after him as good as i should. i really dont know what to do is all i want is whats best for the snake...
Blackecho Posted - 07/04/2010 : 16:30:03
You would have to use a heat mat, 4L isn't uncommon for hatchlings.

Tigeroo, do you know when she last shed? wheezing possibility's are IR. not good. but treatable. On coming shed or skin remaining from last shed. Stress. keep a good check on her. you could up the temp of you viv a couple of degrees. If there is a very mild bacterial RI sometimes that is enough to help kill it of. have a really good check around her head for any possible remaining shed especially round the heat pit around the mouth.. Obviously try and do that in as stress free way as possible. Even trying to keep everything the same for the snake the move will still have be stressful and being in a new house with new smells and vibration could have stressed her a bit. But like I said keep a good eye and ear on her. If the wheezing doesn't clear up or gets worse then you should bring her to your nearest herpetologist/vet just to be sure. good luck

Bilbo - that wouldn't be enough weight loss for me to worry personally, I'd just put it down to natural habits.

Tigeroo - the wheezing is a worry, but 2 weeks isn't much.

I'm havin similar problem, I have recently took over my friends royal (female) and he has told me she can be a fussy feeder, but I have had her 2 weeks and she still hasn't fed, she didn't feed for my friend for a few weeks before I took her on, the temps are the same and the set up is the same, I have even prepared her food the same so to try keep everythin the same and not stress her out. And also every so often it sounds like shes weezing, but there isnt any mucus or dribbling or anything like that she seems fine comin out round her tank in the evening, seems alert enough.

Please help, I have a corn too but never had any problems with her (touch wood), its kinda stressin me out a little that she isn't feeding

4 weeks is not long at all, especially at this time of year. Plus for you to have tried all those different methods in 4 weeks would quite stressful for a Royal. Only try offering once a week and if they don't feed weigh them and see if they're losing any.
bilbo Posted - 22/03/2010 : 21:04:44
thats what i have been doing for the last 2 weeks just offering food once a week i mite try him with a mouse but didnt rearly want to do that but if it gets him eating it would be well worth it. my one is only a young python a mid 09. i have just weighed him and he has gone from 185g to 167g the last time he had a rat was 3rd feb and that was a rat fuzzie..
