Hello,
We are Emma and Haig and have just got our 1st Royal!! So proud
Been told he/she is around 6 months old? Think he's about a foot long - he's settling into his new home quite well
We will post up some pics when I take some! |

Got him/her on Saturday
Yeh, when I took him out last night I noticed his eyes were really milky?
This is what his viv looks like...

Let me know if there are any changes you guys would make? |

I would recommend not handling any new Royal for at least a week, then trying to feed and not handling until 2 days after a successful feed.
If he's in the process of shedding then I would certainly not advise handling as they are virtually blind and very nervous.
Him hiding in the hides is quite normal, don't worry |

Hi and welcome to the forum . Lovely looking wee beasty you've there.
Please tell me that you have got a lamp guard for that lamp. If not then get one pronto. They can get some pretty nasty burns from those bulbs. Other than that looks excellent. |

No - I dont actually have one as the pet shop never used them so thought it was ok not to have them - obviously not though? Can you order them online? |

Hi, I wouldn't offer food until after this shed. His eyes will clear in a day or 2, then a couple of days after that he will shed. I would suggest providing a raised humidity for the next couple of days to help him shed. Have you got a damp hide available? - A marg pot with a hole cut in the lid and filled with slightly damp moss would do. |

I bought some of the moss from the website so will make another hide with that when it arrives.
I am using fine bark just now - is aspen bedding better to use? i see a lot of you have used this? |

i think what substrate you use is often down to personal preference, providing it meets the snake's requirements. I use orchid bark for my royal, big chunks that he can't swallow as i have to feed him in the RUB, and it's good for maintaining humidity. other people use aspen, paper, beech chippings and have good reasons for doing so
JUST AVOID PINE!!! |
