Hi everyone, I live in ellesmere port & am really keen to get a royal. I know where I'm going to get it from, but aren't too sure what size vivarium to get, it'll be a baby/yearling. I've seen a few nice looking vivariums on the net/ebay, I was wondering if anyone knows of any relatively local stockists???
Any hints & tips would be very gratefully received. |

heya and welcome for a real youngster i'd go for a plastic faun/tub/RUB, a yearling might be better in a 2ft viv though. it really depends on which snake you decide to go for and how well grown on it is but generally speaking they prefer their enclosure on the cosy side to make them feel secure. |

Thanks, I'm probably gonna for the yearling, so a 2 foot one it is then. What type of heating is best for it, I've read bad things about heat mats causing burns??? |

i'd recommend a heatmat, certainly till it gets to nearer adult size any heatsource should be run off a thermostat which can be picked up new for £20-£25, a stat is essential. to prevent your snake coming into direct contact with the mat you can put a piece of lino/tile over it. ceramics are better for heavier-bodied snakes such as adult royals. again they need a stat, also a bulb guard to prevent them burning themselves on the bare bulb. heatmats are my preference for younger royals but other people might prefer ceramics. |

Hello Daryl, I joined the forum about 5 days ago and I have had lot of help from other people on here. I got my viv set up yesterday and am collecting the girl tonight. Just like you, can`t wait.
Welcome to the site and hopefully us `snake mites` can learn from each other. Just trying to think of a good female name now. |
