Hi guys! Was in conversation with an ex Royal owner today, and just wondered whether any of you had ever had the misfortune my colleague had. Apparently, his last normal Royal (a yearling) was eating, shedding and deficating all as it should have done. Viv conditions were all correct and temps were steady. The snake ate on the Monday, was fine on the Tuesday and Wednesday, but was found belly up with mouth wide open on the Thursday morning......there having been no sigs whatsoever of any health problems whatsoever!!!!!! I went straigh home and checked Mnemeth. Fine but a we bit anti-social as her eyes are bluing over......HELL! I hope shes just going to shed!!!!! think Im a wee bit paranoid after hearing that story!

Don't worry, we all get paranoid after hearing things like that ;)

Yeah as Hayden says, paranoia is rife in the herp world. After hearing about IBD I was panic-stricken with having boa's and python's :O

It could have been any number of things, really. It is possible his snake had a tumor that ruptured, or it could have had an internal parasite that wasn't known about (yes, some snakes don't have widely visual symptoms) that could have punctured through the intestinal wall. I have even heard of snakes dying out of the blue and when a necropsy was performed, it had IBD, but never had shown any real signs of having the disease. Try not to be paranoid about it (it's hard, I know! ;) ), just do the best you can, provide the best environment you can and the rest is hoping for the best. Really sorry for your friend's loss. It is never an easy thing to lose something/someone you love.
