hey guys, i posted yesterday in the health section, i was worried sick at that time that there was something wrong with my baby royal, but she just had an itchy head. I've just got a quick question. so, i picked her up on sunday, and the guy said they'd shed, we got two btw.. so i got home and mine looked rather dull compared to the partners, now she starting to flake and has been rubbing her head, to start the shed off, (so i was told), i'm a bit apprehensive as it seems to be flaking off and not coming off as it should, if you understand me? or am i just being impatient! she hasn't got any caps over her eyes, but flakes on her face. so i'm a bit lost to whats going on, also she hasn't gone blue etc, ut maybe she did before i got her.. sorry about the essay. My names Arran by the way.

It could still be that your little one is going through the shedding process. What's the humidity like in her home? A moist hide sometimes aids with shedding.

Sounds like she's having a troublesome shed, which Is easily sorted. 1.) the wet pillow case method - wet a pillow case and ring it out. Place snake inside and tie a knot (loose enough for you to undo but right enough for them to not push their way out) and place back in the housing for an hour or so. 2.) spray the housing to create. Higher humidity. Placing a damp flannel over the warm hide / warn side can also do this. 3.) bathe the snake in warm water - use a safe tub/bowl or bath/ sink but don't leave in attended. 4.) damp a towel and let the snake move through it as if you were handling. 5.) when a snake is noticed to be in blue ( the hazy stage at the beginning of the shed cycle) you can also move the water bowl over to the warm side to help raise the humidity. 6.) create a moss box - using a lunch box with a smooth edged hole in the kid, or humid hide - using sphagnum moss inside the warm hide
It might be helpful to post a picture of the snakes set up aswell, as i know from experience that it takes a few tweaks to get the humidity right if you are using a plastic faunarium. Also what temperatures are sitting at etc. it's also good to make sure that the water bowl is big enough, so that if the snake chooses to bath independently during she'd they can.
Hope some of that helps :) |

If she fed today you won't be able to handle her for 48 hours or you risk her regurgitating. That is not good for snakes and much worse than a scruffy shed.

Don't worry i know you can't handle them for a couple of days. I've done my research, haven't gone in to this totally blind. i'm not one of them idiots, ha. Nice of you to offer advice though! she seems happy in her self, just a bit a wrinkly and flakey; the flaking is mostly on her head, so maybe she is just starting her shed. i will upload some pictures her rub tomorrow. she's also been poo n wee since i've had her, so quite pleased over all, and they both fed. |

Forgot to say, thanks for the advice jayde. I'll try some of them things if she hasn't shed in a couple of days, i was just worried it had gone wrong.. i'm a bit of a worrier when it comes to animals, so it's probably just me over reacting. i will keep you updated and post the pics. hopefully by that time she'll be ok and have a nice shiny coat. |
