Hi guys,

Im after abit of advice. This little Royal went into blue like normal and it then cleared up, problem is he didnt shed. Hes been stuck like this for the past 2 days. Ive tried bathing him and gently rubbing wih towels but its pretty well stuck on. A few individual scales have fallen off, but no large bits. His temps are correct and the humidity is up. Anyone got any ideas? Really stuck with what to try.

Damp pillow case, but him in that in the warm end of where he lives, leave him in it overnight... that sorted my spider out the last few sheds as all hers are usually bad :(

How long did you leave him from when his eyes cleared and the blue look went? It can take quite a few days from then before they shed.
I'd put a damp flannel on his warm hide, put his water in the warm end and mist his home to up the humidity. Keep the flannel damp and keep misting so the humidity stays up. It shouldn't cause any RI's if only done for a short time to aid shedding.
Then I'd just leave him be for a couple of days to see if that helps before trying anything else.
Really hope that helps....

Cheers guys. It's been 5 days since he cleared up. He was in blue for a few days beforehand. Damp flannel now on the hot hide and suitably looking like a sauna

You shouldnt put a snake into a pillowcase into the hot end overnight. They need to be able to regulate their temperature and trapping them into the hot side overnight is preventing this and is likely to stress them out.

The damp pillowcase technique is still a great way to sort out bad sheds but leaving them in for about 30 minutes is about as long as is required.

From the picture it looks like a few bits of stuck shed on the nose and a nice clean shiny snake, snakes that fail to shed look like crap and all flakey and crusty and dull, that looks lovely. Are you positive it's not managed to shed all but those bits on its face or is it just a trick of light in the photo, they roll their shed into a tiny ball usually in one of the hides.

i'd just spray the viv afew times over the next week,Rather then bathing, pillow cases, wet rags inside the viv etc.

As it's only that tiny bit on his face.See how it goes once thats gone. Not like its stuck shed on the tail,or eye caps or even a total mess all over.

I know what you mean about looking shiny, but I've not found any anywhere. Popped a damp flannel in last night and since last night one of his eye caps has come off and the tip of his tail.

Yes Lotabob snakes do need to thermo-regulate...but obviously the pillowcase isn't tied at the top, the point of the pillowcase (from my own personal success and understanding of the technique) is to allow the snake to find its way out of the case moistening the skin and when they are finding there way out the case is rubbing against there skin, aiding remove / loosen the stuck skin.. also when they are out it keeps the humidity up.... maybe I should have made this more clear at the start, its the best technique I've found :)
