I have a male 2 1/2 year old royal who is a fussy eater. He went a couple of months without eating, I managed to get him back on food by using chicks. Last night I tried him on small rats again but he refused. I have tried both getting him to strike and also leaving it in with him over night. Any suggestions to get him back on rats? |

Rub a chick over the rat so it smells of chick...worth a try to start with. |

To get my boa onto rats after nice I kept them in the same container so they were touching each other for a couple hours. Works a treat. |

I wouldn't overly worry too much, just keep a record of his weight, and until they lose 10% of their body weight there is no cause for concern. Royals all or the world right now are fasting, it's what they do and they do it so well, my royal hasn't really eaten properly since August and he has lost absolutely no weight at all, I don't know how they do it. |

Good news! He ate the rat after rubbing it with a chick to scent it! I know that they can go months without feeding as he did last year my problem was more that he was refusing rats and would only take chicks, but I appear (for now at least) to have got him back onto rats. |

I am having the same problems at present. My royal hasn't eaten since end of Oct. I was unsure about whether it was a good idea to give them chick, this chat has cleared that up for me though. Thank you! My male is about 2 and he is being stroppy, striking a lot and hissing - this has been going on for about a year now despite being handled everyday. Is anyone else experiencing this? |

Oh chicks, i avoid them. not for any nutritional values or anything feeding related. Chicks turn their poop into wall paper peeling, paint bubbling, eye blinding stink bombs. |
