I know royals are known as ball pythons as they coil up when scared but i think Tilly is wierd. She never coils up she just runs lol. When i lift her hide up to get her out she sits their coils her neck like she is going to strike then legs it to the other hide. When i do get her out i was expecting her to coil up in my lap but no...She legs it again. Is this normal behaviour?

My royal has only coiled up into a ball once, when he was in shed. I picked up the hide and he was coiled up so tight in a ball with his blue-eyed head in the middle. He's never done it in my hand or when I try to pick him up.

Does he always try and leg it? Tilly seems really jumpy.

No, he sits and waits for me to pick him up when in his rub. When out he sits still for a couple of minutes then slowly starts investigating

Princess has only balled up once, and that was when I had to move her while she was blue. When I get her out she normally sits still for a bit and then starts exploring. Feather on the other hand is very happy to curl up on me and have a sleep.

Boo balls everytime, Stig couldn't care what happens, he just does his thing, Sabine does anything but ball up (unless deep in shed).

I've only had my royal for a couple of weeks and she used to ball up in the first week everytime I lifted her hide to get her out, now she just sits there until I pick her up, I try to keep to a regular routine so it doesn't unduly stress her, once out after a couple of minutes she starts to get curious and investigate, I think this is normal :)
