Okay, doing Land based studies at college yesterday, we were discussing ways to health check an animal, we started off discussing furries, and one of the things we discussed was the act of defecating, i.e if they dont defecate relatively soon after having a meal, then there could be something wrong. Inevitabley I piped up that snakes dont poo for some weeks after eating, usually after a shed, and they will eat several times during thts time, HOWEVER the lecturer (an ex vetinary nurse) said that no, snakes should defecate about 1-2 days after eating, and should not be fed until the defecate. Now i KNOW this is not the case with royals, because it takes longer than that to digest their meal, let alone poop it out, and my corns (when i had them) and my CRB are pretty much the same, in terms of you can guarantee they will poop after shedding. Occasionally (and i do mean occasionally they might do it in between a shed, but that has been rare for me. So, what i am asking is this: Is it a FAIR generalisation that SNAKES (in general, not limited to a specific species) should defecate 1-2 days after eating...or does the same thing apply to the majority of snakes as royals? I realise this makes me seem a bit...anal retentive (LOL) but i just want to be clear on this matter. The college has a fair amount of animals, a few reptiles among them i.e a common boa, 2 cornsnakes, one type of watersnake as well as geckos, skinks, beardies and torts. Anywho sorry for the long post |

MC, my corns are real regular..
feed em they poop within 3/4 days normally, but not my royals
if they have snakes then they should know that they dont poop that quick.. |

as with WS my corns would be pretty regular too a couple of days after feed. as for my royals i think if they started to poo a couple of days after feeding i would think there was something wrong. |

My corn is very regular. Perhaps that is the same over all/most colubrids?
Boids all seem to go much longer. |
