I got my royal Monty out today for handling and after about five mins I noticed an unusual lump near his tail. After further investigation I found that the lump seemed like a bone, and is moving around inside him. I have no idea what it is, is this a broken bone, or maybe something retained inside him after a feed The lump is located around 2 1/2 inches up from the tip of his tail. Please help. |

Hmm...I have never heard of a common problem that involves the mass moving. Have him checked at a rep vet. How big is the bump? Does it go across his width?

I'd get a vet to have a look personally. |

yeah i think its a vet job too............keep us posted though. i don't think there's much a vet will do but they can often live quite happily and heal themselves to a certain extent, but it depends where the broken bone(s?) is(are) and whether it causes any other problems with normal bodily functions or mobility... |

I'll try and get some photos up later on this evening. Im going to make an appointment with the vet. The lump is very small, I didnt really want to feel it that much incase it's causing him any discomfort. It seems to only move from side to side widthways. I've just this second noticed that the lump is present on both sides, and must be a line through Monty- Around about two weeks ago I gave him a feed that was a little big for him, so I'm thinking that it might possibly be a peice of bone from it. Is this a possibility? |

is the lump in front of the vent? if it is then it's possibly faecal/undigested food matter, which in itself may require a trip to the vet for (?surgical) removal.........but in the meantime you could try a bath to try and get him to pass whatever it is if it's behind the vent ie. between the vent and the tail tip, it's more likely to be a fractured rib or something similar |

The lump is not in between the tail and vent, its about and inch and a half up the other way. I've tried bathing him, but hes shedding at the moment, so I'm going to wait a few days after the shed to see if its faecal matter. Brookehamiltonx-Its not like a ball, it feels much more like a small thin bone. |
