Hello all, just joined up and I've got a question.
I've now reached the stage where I am ready to buy my first snake and I had my heart set on a Corn until I recently set eyes on a Royal in a garden centre up on The Wirral when I was visiting. I fell in love but would I be better off buying a Corn snake as my first or going straight for a Royal? Bearing in mind I only want one snake and I want that snake for its full duration.
Regards,
Steve

You'll never stop at 1!

Seriously though, you're wise, if its one snake for life (up to 40 years), take your time and make the right choice.

Personally I have both but prefer the Royal. Corns are pretty much bullet proof though, very easy to look after.

Cheers Blackecho, I'll have to take a wander back to the pet shop this weekend. I have heard that the Corn prefers to be handled more than the Python, if thats the case then it has to be the Corn.

Maybe not prefers, but 'tolerates' better.

Hi and welcome as like BE I have both corns and royals. but royals are and were i first love. as he also said you'll not stop at one. I wanted one and with in 5 months i have 6. LOL. 2 of my 4 royals really enjoy being out and love getting stroked under their chin. and one of my corns just can't wait to get back in his viv. so it really can just depend on the the personality of the snake.

as far as cost of keeping. With corns you'll will not spend just as much as there temps don't need to be as high and there food items not as big so you will safe a few pounds there.

but species provide stunning ranges of morphs now so you are spoilt for choice there.

so to get to the point as i am ranting on. ask your self, why you had your heart set on a corn? and why you feel in love with the royal? and let that make the decision for you.

and just remember as Be mentioned your thinking about a possible 40yr choice so take your time.....

Good luck and look forward to hearing what your decide.

Thanks for all the comments and help. I went and did it saturday, I bought a little baby Carolina girl corn snake. I'll be picking her up this coming sunday and I can't wait! I've called her Beau and if anyone in Cornwall is after a snake, I can highly recommend Chacewater garden centre in Truro.
