Hi to everyone on the forum,Im getting my first baby royal python in about 6 wks after it has eaten at least eight times,I have kept corn snakes,but new to royals,advice is needed please,The starter kit i was told needed was a large faunaruim with a heat mat which is 7.25 watts, been told i dont need a thermostat,i only get 23c tops with central heating on, do i need a higher watt heat mat, thought about putting the faunarium in a enclosed 2ft vivarium.

hi steve, and welcome to the fourm.
yeah it will need a bigger watt mat, but u can also put it in the vivarium.
24c should be the cold side, and 30c for the hot side :) |

| Hi, welcome to the forum, you DO need a thermostat with any heat source, even heat mats can fail and overheat. |

Thanks for the welcome, the heat mat i was given is 142mm x274mm the faunarium is 18inches long and 12inches wide,can you get a bigger wattage in the 142mm x274mm size and what thermostat would you suggest.

| You should be able to get a basic mat stat for around £20, it could save you serious vet bills or even your snake's life. It annoys me so much that more pet shops do not ensure people use them. |

How are you measuring the temperatures? - If it is a dial one stuck half way up the back wall its 'chocolate teapot!'
