Here's my RUB-Viv!

It's not so bad, huh? Okay, so my royal is a bit stressed out from getting moved so he can't decide which hide he wants to go into... can't even find the opening of the hide yet (facing towards the back so he's not too "exposed" from the clear plexiglass front). I'm hoping he settles down soon.

In any case, this is just an idea of how you can make a viv out of a RUB to save up some space.

Very nice - and lovely set-up. Have you fixed a perspex window in the front of the rub - that's a brilliant idea.

If the snake's a bit stressed at moving from viv to lighter rub, you could always try putting a towel or similar over the sides and back of the rub to make it darker. Shahi started out in a rub with me (but soon went into a viv) and I did the same to make it feel dim and sheltered; in fact, when he went into his viv, I hung a towel over one end of the window, and now he's graduated to a net curtain. Anything to make him feel secure.

Hey, Kelfezond, how are the engaged couple? Wedding plans going ahead? LOL

Brilliant! LOL! I love that British word!

So yeah, that's a not-sure-what-you-said... in America it's called plexiglass. It's some kind of hard clear plastic that you can drill with a regular drill bit. It is cheap too. I cut this out of a 36X30 that was only $15. So, I can make 6 "windows" out of $15. Not bad.

Yup, that's perspex all right. That's a brilliant idea!LOL

(Don't exactly think of myself as a brit - bit of a mongrel really, but lived here all my life so ... umm, yes, picked up the usual slang ... well, brilliant is a brilliant word when you think about it ... In the early 80s they used to say 'brill'! Useless fact for the week ...)

They've not met yet, I'm worried Valhalla will eat him ahha, she's a fatty at the moment.

They're opposites, Valhalla is fat, Diablo is skinny, Valhalla is lazy, Diablo is active. So I'm hoping it's true about opposites attracting and their marriage will go ahead as planned hehehe

LOL - bless them.

As usual, I'm useless at posting links, but if you google Markus Jayne ball python breeding, you will find a really entertaining site, with loads of photos, including one of two snakes curled up after mating ... at first it looks like one big female, but snuggled in the middle is ... her toyboy! (A little young IMO, but great pic!)

Is this the picture you are talking about at Markus' site?

LOL... yeah, that's a boytoy alright. :D

And some porn from the same site:

If you can't do that, I say wait until you get a bigger place before getting another royal.

The thing with cohabiting is that, it's great when nothing goes wrong. It's a disaster if something does go wrong. So, basically, the whole time you're doing it, you're hoping nothing goes wrong...

It's like the dog. I really wanted a doberman pinscher. It's my favorite dog. But, my yard is very small and I'm not a runner. So, my doberman will have to live in "apartment-like" conditions with only a little exercise. He could very well thrive just fine in that small space. But, it definitely not the best situation for the natural requirements of a doberman pinscher. So, I got me a bichon frise instead. It would be the same for the snakes.

Me, personally, I took on the responsibility of being "god" to these snakes. They're completely dependent on me, so I will have to do everything in my power to give them the best situation. Royals are solitary snakes. It is against their nature to co-habit. So, I try to let them be solitary. And that's not even taking into consideration that if one gets sick - both will have to go to the vet - that's double vet bills all around.

Just my 2 cents.

totally agree make a stack if ya want to keep another, you will easy make a stack the same size as ya viv or as a rule they dont need the height in a viv so lower your viv height and add ontop where ya saved room....

must be a way of getting round keeping two together if not wait untill you have the room

nic

Both snakes are doing great, in fact Diablo has settled into his rub a lot quicker than Valhalla took for her viv.

In fact he is out and about exploring every single night I come in from work, it's a nice welcome change from Valhalla's moody sleeping sessions hehe.

He went berserk when I was feeding Valhalla today, obviously smelt the mouse he was patrolling up and down his rub and nudging the air holes.

That is very nice to hear! Congratulations!

Now it's time to cruise the for sale ads for another female... coz, you know, a snake named Diablo needs a harem.

LOL, then you'll have a lot of pied pythons clearing you out of rats!

Would probably just keep one and sell the rest. Always wanted a pied but they're a little on the pricey side so figured it'd be more fun and cheaper to breed one :D

Just take a long time.

Nice long-term project though, might even make you a bit of dosh! No I sort of meant it as a silly joke about that poem, you know, the Pied Python of Hamelin, where he comes to town and mops up the plague of rats ... There's also that Gilbert and Sullivan operetta about the Cornish snakes, isn't there? The Pythons of Penzance?

Sorry ... my jokes get worse!

No, it's not you - it's me that's old ... It's the generation gap - sorry!

How's Valhalla, by the way? Sorry, off-topic, but she's adult, isn't she, and isn't it getting towards the breeding season? Are females edgier at this time? Could that account for her jumpiness? Hope she's going on ok anyway.

Valhalla is bitchy at the moment, and very lazy. But I love her still :) She just needs some time I guess. No sure if she's classed as Adult yet or not, she's about 8-9 months old I think. I know she was born '09 but not sure what month, judging by averages from BE's graph it came to about 9 months.

Out of curiosity, what kind of space do you need for a breeding project?

If I don't have enough room I might have to Hi-jack the spare room.

I've never bred snakes so not sure - but given Valhalla's and Diablo's ages, they're not ready for breeding yet - they'll just have to subscribe to True Love Waits ... aaaaaahhhh!!!!
