Well Bella has just taken another feed with no problems so thats been 3 feeds now all 5 days apart 
I'm so pleased. Looks like my girl likes a cosy home and her mice hot!

| VERY good im really fed up, my new baby wont go anywhere near her food . I have tryed her 3 times and nothing, any tips how do you do it, |

Hi, quite often they can be slow starters and I agree this is worrying - though quite often it's worse for us than for them. Opeyemi's probably just taking her time to settle in, but in your place I'd be anxious too, although, as I've found out from reading on this forum, there's no need; they all seem to get round to their first meal in their own sweet time.
Have you got feeding records from the supplier? I know these aren't always kept, though. Did the supplier tell you what Opeyemi was eating/how she likes to feed etc? How often was she being fed?
If you know her routine, for the time being I would stick to that, personally, but it wouldn't hurt to leave her food overnight with her (some new royals like to eat at dead of night, at their leisure.) If you're using aspen substrate or similar though, put plenty of kitchen roll down - I use a piece of lino/doggy feeding mat, and put the food in the snake's hide on top of that - hopefully the snake goes into the hide and feeds and doesn't drag the prey elsewhere ...
It's early days yet, though, and she'll get there - all the best. |

| Hi thanx for your answer, i only got told to feed her med mice, I got her from the shop but i got her as soon as the breeder dropped her off. He said she was feeding fine but that was all.I suppose she is prob so unsettled as she didnt have time to even chill in the pet shop first before i brought her home,they would have prob made sure she was eating for a few more weeks normally. She weighs about 74 grams and was born in oct last year. is this a decent weight. |

I wouldn't worry about weight too much, does she look a decent shape for her length? They go like a toblerone shape when they are seriously underweight and the spine is very prominent. A few missed feeds is nothing to worry about, I took three attempts to get Duke to feed and coaxed him to the eating side with a slightly smaller meal to start with just placed on a little tray in the vivarium and left overnight. Was great to see it was gone in the morning, you've all that to come.
I have noticed that Royals seem to take a long time to settle in for lots of peple but they all do, I've never heard on here of one that never feeds so its only a matter of time. |

Hi, she is on the small side, but there are quite a few very small royals about. It's difficult as many suppliers have different names for frozen prey, but I would have thought medium mice, or what my supplier calls medium mice, would be too large for her.
Ideally she should be taking a prey item 10/15% of her body weight, so a small mouse would be better - my supplier gives the average weight of these as 9gm. (Of course rats are better, as we know, but if she's used to mice and only settling in, personally I'd keep her on what she's used to and try changing to rats once she's eating regularly.)
At that weight you'll be able to try her every 5 days - if she won't feed, then leave her another 5 days; this is less stressful for her than being offered food more often.
Are you warming the mouse in a plastic bag in tap-hot water, as Louise has mentioned? That often arouses their interest. You can try waggling the mouse with tongs a couple of inches in front of the snake, or simply leaving it in with her - sometimes you have to experiment to find out what they like.
As I say, she'll get there; she's probably still settling in.

I had to move her into a smaller tub, I think it's around 4L, it looks small but she must be happier as since the move she is now feding.
She is on small mice and fed every 5 days. I make the mouse nice and warm and this has helped too. I hold it with tongs and once she smells it I make it twitch a bit, then slowly move it away from her and bam, she strikes |
