Hi, welcome to the forum!
Sorry but nobody outdoes me as chief worrybucket lol - I'm dreadful! And I've got three royals.
Royals are usually excellent eaters - just not all the year round. In winter/spring an adult royal's mind is on mating, and at some point during this period it's going to stop eating - could be for a few weeks or a few months, depends on the royal. I've come to see it like hibernation - they live on their fat, so to speak, though some scarcely lose weight. They start eating again when they're ready, and I just offer every fortnight, and if the food's not accepted, the corns recycle it (as long as it's still fresh of course.) You'd be even better placed with a boa to eat up the leftover rats.
It's a personal decision and I'm biased, but I love royals - I'd get one lol.
ps Yesterday I happened to mention to my ex-husband, who is Roman Catholic, that my Saada is still fasting. 'Well, of course,' he said. 'It's Lent, isn't it?' |

I'd recommend a royal to anyone, however we recently had somebody selling their royal as its non-feeding was worrying her so if you're prone to worry over it not eating maybe a royal isn't the best snake for you to get. If you can sit back and say 'meh thats what they do' then a royal is a great snake to keep!
If you're after a normal you're better off checking local reptile shops than searching for a courier and breeder it'll be far less expensive.
If you give a location we might be able to offer more help though. |

Ha - yes - with Stumpy there - I have got Saada, Surahi and now Missy via preloved and am very pleased.
There are loads of royals advertised with setup and these can be such bargains - for instance, Saada was sold because her owner was moving into student accommodation where she wasn't allowed. £150 inc setup, which was a 3' viv, heat bulb, guard, habistat stat, loads of java branch, plants, exo-terra hide and other hides, mopani roots, et water dishes ... to buy that lot new would have set me back £150, never mind Saada, who is still fasting but a right little madam for her rats when in eating mode. |
