Hi all I am knew to the site and Snakes
I am 29 and live in South Wales
Peviously i have kept beardies and chemeleons but not for a few years due to working shifts.
My daugther wanted a snake so we ended up getting a royal python pastel morpth CB10 200grams. We have had him 9 weeks and he has only just eaten a rat weaner.
I now they can go a long time with out eating but being new to this i got to admit i was starting to worry a little. He eventually eat a rat weaner last night being left with it over night.
We tried all sorts of different size mice etc
The set up is a 50ltr really useful rub with various hides ant various temps, water bowl on bark chippings (cant remember what they are called) and a heat mat.
Any tips advice would be great
thanks jas

Hi and welcome and congrats on your new royal and the feeding.
Yeah, they can start fasting at any time from autumn - spring, due to the breeding season, and it may be that your lad, being a '10, has done this, despite his size and age (my cf10 male fasted too.) Or it may be that your royal was just taking his time to settle in. The fasting period can be a bit daunting (I have a very small cf09 female who has just eaten after only eating twice in 6 months) but -the great thing is that, eventually, they do start again. I think of it as a sort of hibernation - they live on their fat, though often they lose little weight.
Royals are amazing snakes! We're all addicted here! |

you will find it much better here than the dark side lol
its like a big weight has been lifted when a new snake eats for the first time and fingers crossed for you that he eats again next time |

Hi, i think this is a common thing when u bring a new royal to new viv/rub, mine didn't eat yet since i got him in 28/3/2011. at first, i was too worried, but now after i read about ppl experience, fasting for a few month is a normal thing for royals so u just have to keep his environment good (temp 31-26C , humidity 50-60% , hides and clean water) and one day he/she will surprise u taking a prey down
