Hi, I've only just found this forum, I've got a royal that is approx 14 months old, Hugo is his name and he is great I've had him about 3 months and we get on great.
I also have a bearded dragon, hermans tortoise and several frogs (red eye, pacman and fire bellys)
This is my first snake, but have kept the beardy and frogs for getting on 6 years or so now.
Look forward to participating in this forum!

I agree royals are great!
Curly (our pacman) is also pretty cool, very lazy doesn't do too much, but has very good feeding response Wich is nice to watch! |

The males growl don't they (although judging by youtube vids you have to aggravate them which isn't cool!)
They're fabulous looking frogs! |

I do believe that you can get them to "growl" as u say but like you say also they need to be aggravated to do it I believe if you catch hold of them and stroke there back they will preform this , as far as I'm aware the males do this to signal to another male, that might be trying to mount it (for breeding purposes) that he is also in fact a male. (if that makes sense?!)
I haven't tried this I don't think it would be fair to!
The red eye is by far the most naturally vocal, never heard much from the pacman or fie bellies, but the red eyes "croak" and "chirp" alot while they are up and about!! |

Lol - they sound cool. I used to keep wild frogs and toads as a kid though I shouldn't have been allowed to really, and my mother, when she had a pond in the front garden of one of her houses in the Lake District, once said that she preferred toads to frogs, because toads 'Go under the water when they er...do it. Frogs stay ...on top, and ...make a noise. It's so embarrassing! I have to go away every Easter!'

There is several exotic shops around me (Wiltshire) and frogs of all different varieties are quite widely available, although the red eyes are becoming increasingly more difficult to get I think this is due to change in laws on importing them but don't quote me on that! There also several websites you can get them from, Www.dartfrog.co.uk being one. Or 888Reptiles.co.uk |
