Hi I've been reading about albinism and have come across sensitivity to light, this is something I knew about but never really thought about it when buying my albino, has anyone had issues with there albino being sensitive to light, |

Royals dont require light and are nocturnal so its not an issue for them. Unless you are exposing them to UV lights in the viv I wouldn't worry about it. |

Hi Danno I don't think they mean the red IR bulbs we use to heat the vivs I think It's to do with sun light more importantly the UV given of by the sun as they have no natural protection, so It's a good job royals are nocturnal lol
Sorry bob we crossed over lol |

Yes the one I owned wouldn't feed with the lights on. It had to be really dark I knew where the albinos head was and just dangled the rats near it Couldn't for the life of me see anything and just had to wait for the strike in the dark lol

Thank you for replies but I probably should have said more about my setup, I'm currently running cearmic heat bulb with a normal energy saving light bulb in the tank on a timer 12/12, my albino is still settling in (may be part of problem) but when the light bulb is on seems to shy away and look the other way or hide his head, I know chances are that he probably just needs to settle in but after reading what I read it's made me think.
And thanks for offer but he stays where he is I ain't even had a chance to think of name :) |

It shy's away cause it's nocturnal and a bright light would make it think it's day time which would leave it open for an attack from a predator in the wild, if you want to see it and don't want to change the ceramic for an IR Bulb, you could use a blue or red LED |

Yeah my normal wont do anything or go anywhere in the light, so I dont have any lights in his vivarium at all and have a tactically placed piece of furniture to keep it as dark as possible for him. |
