I'm pretty worried about our Bumblebee. We've had him over a year and he's been fine, had never missed a feed until recently. He's just started star gazing for 10 minutes or so at a time, he's doing an Indian head dance, he's also just generally lazy, lying in the middle of his viv. He's also off his food. In the last couple of days a pink line has appeared on his head aswel. Hopefully someone can suggest something else it could be, please. Here's a pic of his head

Don't worry we will be, just trying to get some info first and trying to find out if it could be anything else, as soon as you hear about star gazing alls you see is IBD |

Well I've had a read of it and I've known about head wobble in spiders for a good while but not "head spin". Could this be the head dance that's he's doing, his head just kind of sways around. It just seems strange that everything's happened together, this head sway, the mark on his head, the gazing up and the general laziness. Hopefully this is just spider craziness, anyone who can shed any light on it though, the mark on the head for example would be appreciated |

No that's a wobble isn't it? This is like a sway. If you watch YouTube vids of pythons with IBD and their heads are swaying around and hitting the viv and the floor it's like that only not as bad, although its only just started. |

Just speculation on other causes, by no way a replacement for a vet visit but if you google any royal symptoms IBD tend to pop up. If in doubt always see a vet.
Has the snake recently been exposed to a new snake or a new snake in the house or have you handled or been in close proximity to another snake. See as rubbish as this is, IBD is very quickly fatal in Royals so the time from infection to death is a mater of a month or so. If it's not been exposed to an infected snake or the infection through transfer then it would be very unlikely to be IBD. (It doesn't rule it out but it makes it less likely to be IBD if non of the above apply).
My Royal's white belly goes pink when he is coming up to starting the shedding cycle, I'm wondering if this pinking could be more visible on a light coloured shed in other places.
Also a lot of Royals are acting a bit mental this time of year, age dependant it may just been feeling the call of the horn.
As always when anything changes have a check of all your temps etc just make sure everything is doing what it should be.
The good old spider gene, if its got it (bees do) then it can have a head wobble & giddy corkscrewing type behaviour. Most snakes if not all will sway their heads too when they are raised of the ground, all mine do it, specially my Boa, when food is about she bobs like a rocker but she is perfectly healthy, just excited (or perceived excitement, god knows what they actually are thinking). |

Probably singing "God, I hope I get it. I hope I get it." to themselves, or at least that's what I think they're saying. Never fails to bring a smile onto my face |
