Hi Guys,
Warm side is perfect for snake with UTH but i just realised when i turn my heating off the cold side ambient goes to 18C. I know this is too cold and need to raise it.
The expensive route looks like a ceramic bulb, fitting, guard and twin stat. Is a more cost effective solution an infra- red bulb (50w), fitting, guard and unregulated?
Obviously the infra- red option is far far cheaper but would it have any detrimental affect on the snake, which is of course the main priority?
Thanks for any input.
edit
it's a baby ball, in a 2ft lx24 if you guys need this info. |

The simplest remedy would be don't turn the heating off. The hot spot temperature can be maintained at 32-33oC day and night, the ambient temperature will drop at night without you having to do anything but having the hot spot maintained at the desired temperature will still keep the vivarium warm enough for a happy snake. |

Thanks for that, i prefer not to have the heating on much if i can help it because i prefer a colder house and heating on 24/7 would probably cost a bomb in gas bills.
I'm just a little concerned that the snake seems to be holing up in her warm hide more and more and not coming out/exploring, i just assumed that it was too cold outside the hide and it needed attention?
Is an infra-red bulb a viable option or is there a different preferred method for pythons if i do need to do something about the temps other than keeping the heating on all the time?
