the saliva produced by the snake will make sure it slips down either way. it can be awkward for the snake with bigger prey items as the legs get in the way, but they usually get it down any way, just takes a little longer.
which way the prey item's coat lays can help the snake find the best (head) end to start eating first, i wonder if that's what these people have got confused with.........................? |

Hi, If it is of any consolation my sons Royal Charlie also has a small white spot on its last quarter of its body. My son noticed it a few months back after a tatty shed. He had only had charlie 3 weeks before this bad shed. The spot does not appear to cause any discomfort to him and Charlie has shed twice since, both times in one complete shed, and has not refused any food during that time either. I have put it down to a couple of scales coming off during the bad shed and the white mark left is the skin under the scales, I would imagine if this is the case the scales will not grow back and the mark will stay like a scar. I also had this on a burmise many years ago and it never bothered him either. Hope this is of some help. Garry Mc quote: Originally posted by bpluv
hi everyone, this is my first post and im new to rp ownership. my rp came home on tuesday after it had apparently shed and eaten, but im not to know. is apparently around 5 weeks now. when i got it home i noticed a small white spec on its back and thought nothing of it. now since, it seems to have got bigger, but maybe it hasnt? but it seems to have got a sore nose that looks very uncomfotable but i cant find any infomation on anything like these. i cant find a local herp vet open in the area so im hoping someone can put my mind at rest. this is my royal python.

sorry for the poor picture but you can sort of make it out. it seems to be loseing the skin off its nose as its going really dry.

hopefully someone has seen it before.
thanks to anyone that can help in advance.

hi, i apprieciate all the replys. i went to the vet this morning and saw a dr david muge, nice guy seemed to know what he was talking about. said the spot was an old injury, but he rubbed it and the spot went, and the nose is just from rubbing like mentioned,he said i could let it heal but i said id rather treat it so he gave me some hibiscrub and said to collect some poo for analisis as we dont know if its cb/ch or what. so, great, a clean bill of health for now. thanks for the help and advise. now... any ideas how i can stop it climing on the lamp shade to try and get to the vent, and how do i stop it rubbing the glass. will it ever realise it will just fall off the shade? thanks again. much apprieciated.
neil but still wont tell me if its male or female, he said to wait a few months to probe it |

i just weighed my baby as i think i should start keeping an eye on its weight. its roughly 7.5weeks old and weighs 51.2 grams! is this normal weight or to light. it does seem very skinny with lots of skin to fill?
thanks |

Sorry, that viv still looks huge for a hatchling (which is what 51g weight is). Personally I would Put it in a 9L RUB until its eating well.
What have you tried offering so far?

pinkies, fuzzies and rat pups. the snake is nearly 2 months so is it still classed as a hatchling because of its weight? i cant really afford to go spending on a heatmat and stat at the momnt. its the sam as misscats by the look of hers. not really big i dont think??
thanks |
