yea, im not trying atall... im just trowing money at it. i spent nearly £500 on stuff for this baby royal, but hey.. i should try atleast i know. but i can only go on advise, and how do i know the advise im getting is going to help atall. like you say, they are all differant.
my friends royal eats and sheds with little heat/humidity in a massive viv, with 1 little bulb bearly doing anything, unstatted, and with low humidity. but im being told that all my stuff is wrong? how can i beleive that spending more will help.
and surly my posts on here show that im trying to do my best for my royal.
thanks for the advise so far to the helpful ones |

I know it can be very frustrating getting things right but bear with it and it will work out...
If you have ended up with a few bit over why not try selling them to recover some of the costs. Advertise them on here and RFUK and im sure you will sell them. |

i think that viv can work..
i had Peanut in a 3 foot viv at 8 months..
are you feeding in or out of the viv?
i would feed in the viv...
also before you feed, wash the food in washing up liquid and thoroughly rinse, dont handle its food at all, use tweezers.
When it is warmed up, get a hair dryer, open the viv door and use the hair dryer on hot till the snake gets a smell of dinner, make sure it is hot to touch before trying,
when feeding dont dangle it in front of your royal, let your royal sense it, you will know when he is interested as his tongue will flick, if he shows interest then slowly move it a bit closer and stop, this is harder to explain than to do..jiggle it gently so it creates movement, again hard especially with a rat pup, but this can be done if holding the pup by its back..let the royal come to the food, not food to the royal...
and feed him late at night...if he does not take it, cover the viv and go out... leave it in overnight...
also make sure your using extra long tweezers so he does not get scared by you being there..
finally if this does not work, can you get hold of live food?
either a rat pup or a multi? cos that is what i would do...for at least two to three consecutive feeds...
good luck...oh and try not to be despondant when offering food cos your snake can sense it..

Wash the rat in washing up liquid?
I'm not saying this is wrong Anne, but goes against everything I would have thought makes sense. I try to keep as much scent as possible on the rat to make it appealing, plus you'll add a chemical smell/flavour? |

a damn good reason to research your new pet BEFORE buying it!
and it's easy enough to check out prices online soyou know if you're being ripped off! |

yep i was told by someone who knows more than me on the dark side..lol....weak solution..... rinsed THOROUGHLY
gets rid of any urine smells , rats scent comes back when it is being heated up with hair dryer
dont have to do it,but sometimes the wee smell can take away the scent of the animal, is what i was told. |

thanks for the replys. im feeding in the viv with 25cm tweezers. would washing it work or defeat the object? its not the cost of the box, its the heatmat and stat the are the main cost. i have 2 heatmats but they are stuck to the bottom of the glass tank i got. they are brandnew. would 1 be ok if i use my dimmer stat? or will i need a matstat aswell? and i didnt want to get flamed but i did try a live mouse off my friend but in the cage the mouse and snake stayed at each end, and out the viv in a box the snake just tried getting out and the mouse just moved about round it. i tried warming up with the hair dryer but not with the glass open. when its open the snake wants to come out. iv now covered up the viv with the day glo bulb doing its heat and light, im gonna put the red one on at night. they are both in there and easily plugged from the stat. but could i unstick my mats and use it with my dimmer in a rub? if i can il do that today.
thanks for the helpful replys |

how big was the mouse?
at his age you want nothing bigger than a rat pup, he needs confidence right now
where are you based? |

i have an idea,
have you got a rub?
iF so then this might be ok,
see what the others say.
but you could take everthing out of the viv, except the heat source and put him in a rub inside the viv, with your digital thermometer inside the hde in the warm end of the rub, make it similar to how it is in the one posted in the d-i-y section on here ( sorry cant putah link in), and leave him alone totally for seven days only changing water if it is soiled
then get a live rat pup, take out all hides and leave him in the rub with the rat pup.
check him again after an hour or so. |
