hi all well picked up new snake tonight. and it is in a bad way. old shed still on head a bit of scaring on back. looks like it hasn't eat very much skin hanging of it. but not dehydrated. oh yeah and mites.!!!!
my own little rescue snake. if it had of stayed were it was it surely would not have made it. Now I can give it a chance. I'm prepared for, it may not make it. but i'll make sure it goes out fighting if it does.
When i picked it up it was in a 3ft foot glass viv. one hide and a bit of greenery . heated by unstated un guarded white reflector bulb..
It is now in a 9lrub heated by stat-ed heat mat. paper substrate . two hides and a small water bowl. (hospital conditions) quarantined in separate room from my other snakes. Due to mites and poor condition we. (my wife under my instruction. reducing risk of contamination to other snakes)give it a warm bath and a good look over. Scaring on back is a burn mark.. after warm bath i thought no time to wait a week to settle. I really need to get some food into it as its very weak. so assist fed a pinkie. only thing i had small enough. all my mice are to big. looks to be a bit sore around the mouth as well but couldn't be sure. I'll have to get another look at that in a day or two. I'll took a couple of pics to be able to document its condition. i'll get them up in a bit. No name yet i think i'll leave that for a bit too. not sure of sex. at a guess i think male. pure guess based on slightly longer tail. If/when its all better and healthy i'll bring it to get it checked.
I guess i should say that the young fella i took it from has only had it just over a week. He swapped it for some corn hatchlings that he had left from his own corns. so it would have been in a bad way when he got it.

Slightly worrying that the idiot who had the baby royal to begin with has now got two corn snakes instead! Poor little thing, sounds like he's in a really bad way. Not the best start in life by any means. He's in good hands now though at least, so hopefully he can pull through and live a happy life. Best of luck to you all! |

Poor little thing, in good hands now though, here's hoping for a soon to be plump python!
I've got fingers, hands and eyes crossed for you, and Rex....well, he's crossed the fork of his tongue for you! |

cheers all for best wishes. bought frontline and a couple of fuzzies today. so will start treatment tomorrow. what do you think a bout a 4day feeding schedule at least till it starts to fill out abit. haven't got a good look at the mouth yet. hopefully i was just imagining it.
its tragic that it is in this way. but really was one of those things. i couldn't just leave it were it was to die,.fingers and everything crossed here. hopefully if it is strong enough to last a couple of weeks proper care it will pull through.
and to end the night with another pain was Gaia refused her food, thats a first. and she wasn't to keen last week had to leave it in viv and she thought over night last week. tried same again but with no luck. but i suppose with winter coming in they sre going to start this. |

when i got Bliss i had a chat with someone and for the first six weeks i had her on a four day regime, then upped it to five and so on till now she is on a normal routine and gaining weight steadily.
How old is Gaia? i never had a prob with Peanut last winter, but i think that was because he was still a baby, expecting him to maybe be different this year though;-) |

I wouldn't go down to 4 days myself, snakes are very hardy and you don't want to make them fat, adding it slowly is better.
Plus the reason that people quote 5 days is that the whole digestion process can take up to that long, so if you feed again after 4 days they may still be trying to digest their last meal. |

thank dog you rescued him spor! i dread to think what prolonged keeping in those conditions would do.......[;(]
i'm guessing you'll be feeding relatively small prey items to get him feeding again? in that case i can't see a problem with a 4-day feeding schedule, whereas a good feed every 4 days would be overload! |

just to add when i was feeding on a four day schedule it was not full sized meals, i started her on 50g weaners and then gradually built her up...this was to avoid her gaining weight to quickly..
she now happily pounds 120g rats..and any extras that come her way when Oscar was not feeding... |

going to get a couple of fuzzy mice into her/him to start with and then just move up gradually. had been thinking of the four day feeding for the fuzzies and start of small mice. I know the digestion process can take 5 days but as GP said with a small meal it should be ok? haven't got a good weight of her yet. I know i was told 100g. but as soon as i got her home i put her on scales in travel tub at it weighed 85g altogether. Travel tub weighed 30g. so see is around 55g .
Just done frontline treatment for mites and had a good look over her/him. can see mites under scales. there does not appear to be loads but enough. as regarding the sore mouth. still not sure tried a few pics so will get them up if they are any good. Although the eyes are not showing any signs of dehydration the body is. a few bits if scaring from heat lamp. that may also be what has happened to mouth. Also very hollow and sunken around vent which was not very clean.and looks a bit damaged to be honest. did n't get a pic of vent but will try when i am giving her bath in a couple of days. Its almost like some one who had no idea what they were doing has tried to pop him/her. now BE frontline guide states to bath 2 to 3 days after application. this is also when i need to get some food into her. Bath first feed after seems the best way to go?
She is in double quarantine at the minute in her rub which is in a the 2ft Pennie viv. I know oh my first post i tried to stick up fr the young fella but at the end of the day. he has corns of his own and his dad was saying he wants to be a vet. but he should have be doing something and not just leaving it in this state. going to go now starting to get a bit angry. will keep you up to date. |

nothing much to up date with today. she/he appears settle in rub. and is moving around and regulating temp ok. does ever seem to be in hides for some strange reason. Picking up some reptile boost tomorrow will start getting that into water or may go for the syringe and tube option so i know /he/she is definitely taking in fluids as i have not seen her drink. she/he is just lying out in the rub at the min and i have just seen a mite run under the chin. warm bath tomorrow will hopefully get rid of a few more of them. |

well quick update. Picked up reptoboost tonight so have it mixed up and in her/ his small water bowl. gave her/him a nice warm oily bath to was of the front line. Binned everything in rub, disinfected the rub and stat/temp probes and put nice clean everything in it. 2 hides, water bowl and kitchen roll substrate.
i then assist fed a fuzzy mouse which she/he really had a lot of difficulty with. didn't know whether to eat or spit out. but after a 10min finally decided that eating it was the best thing to do and eventually got it down. there was a wee bit of wheezing and cracking while fuzzy was in mouth but i'm really hoping this was due to fuzzy being there and increased saliva, and not an RI. that would be all he/she would need as we are already fighting the odds.
on a general note he/she does seem a wee bit brighter and i think if we get past the next couple of weeks and feeds we will be able to breath a bit easier. |

You'll be suprised how hardy the little blighters are. Best of luck and prepare yourself for a slow but hopefully rewarding process. So long as you have nice warm temps and a clean enviroment they tend to get well quickish. |

Awww bless the poor little thing. As you've rightly said, hopefully after a few feeds he/she'll start to really pick up. And hopefully he/she will get the idea that rodents are nommy! |
