not convinced she is drinking from the water dish. so think i might have to see if i can buy a small syringe and pipe and do it that way. will try local chemists tomorrow. failing that i can run out the road to my domestic vet and get it there,

still no name yet but i am working on it.!

tbh an easy way to rehydrate would be to soak the snake. I did use hydro life on Boo and it blatantly worked. I used to dropper and placed a droplet at the snakes mouth and you could see her drinking it.

hi all ok went to the vets today and bought. gastric tube smallest they had and small syringe. when i took her/him out tonight then for oily bath time i made sure she/he got some fluids into them
just 2.5ml of reptoboost water. no pic of actual procedure but just to let you know that it went alot easier than i expected.

follow pics are of what i used and few pics of snakey so you can see how he/she looks now, also a couple of vent area which i am concerned about now.
the equipment

snake

bit sunken round eyes

the vent area

vent photos aren't great didn't have right lens on camera. but hope you can see that it is slightly brown, bruised almost. she also has a slight pink patch half way do body. just slight pink. no raised scales.

as far as the mites are going . there are definitely a lot less on her/him i couldn't see any like i could before under the scales.

general i think he/she is a bit brighter. settled ok when i was doing the tube hydration. so hopefully it knows i am tying to help. any advice welcome. as there appears to be no sign of any RI's other infection I am for the moment holding back on taking him/her to reptile vets. he/she is improving i think a small bit at a time so, I think if i can keep working at the nutrition. hydration and the mites we should be out of the woods. Please.....

PS sorry for size of photo's

Finally have a name. DAHOMEY. this is what Bennin in west africa was called before 1975. it is also where the origins of the royal python began and the Ancient Dahomian People were snake worshipers.

I love the name! I always try and give my animals names that relate to where they come from or some kind of relevance to what they are...that probably doesn't make sense...I've jusk woken up too

Poor little snakey - as WS says you are doing any absolutely grand job.

Anne thank you very much for that offer but i think we'll be ok. just caught sight of Dahomey this morning with head in water bowl so thinking that squirt yesterday has triggered something. Some hopefully will not have to be doing that for to long.

As for area around vent . it is more a brown colour as the scales surrounding it. Does appear to be infected. Waiting for a poo i guess to see what happens then. Once he is healthy enough and mite free i'll take him to the vets for a good check over. my fear is that the damage around vent is from a bad attempt at sexing so there may be some scaring there. he is still very young but seems to be putting up a good fight and improving day by day and i guess that really all i can ask for.
next time i'm doing the tube hydration i'll try and get my wife to take some photos so people can see what i am doing.

hi Davey and welcome, just to let you know you have posted in wrong thread here. mods might move it to the introduction thread or if you want to delete and repost there yourself it would be easier.

you get a lot more hellos and advice if you need any.

just a quick update. went to bring dahomey out to get a fuzzy into him and low and behold what did i see a little snake in full pre shed mode. Hope the little fella has the energy to pull of a good one. he needs it. general observations. filled out a little. have seen him drinking from water dish on a couple of occasions from it done the tube so holding of on doing that again. area around vent is starting to look a bit better and not hollow anymore which is good, as for mites. didn't want to stress him out to much so just had a quick look. couldn't see any under scales. when i changed out hides and kitchen towel there where only a couple in there and all dead. just have fingers crossed that he makes it through this shed ok as he was so weak before i know this shed could either make him or break him.

Sean have you got any ardap?

if so you could use a small sqare of paper and spray it with the stuff, let it dry and put it in his rub somewhere, mites are attracted to it and it kills them...

good luck with the shed little Dahomey...

keep the updates coming wont you

hi anne. No don't have any Ardap using the frontline method which seems to be working at the minute. But i will maybe try and get the hold of some. Have put a tiny bit of damp moss in a small hide and put it in rub as well. i know its maybe not ideal when there is mites about but really want to do everything again to help with this shed.
