How long have you left it for before going back to mice? |

Hi, im relatively new to keeping royals (1 year now) but i hope i can be of some help. My male pastel is a fussy eater and i went about 8-9 weeks without being able to feed him when i got him. He seemed to be petrified of rats at first. I was given a bag of Multi`s by the breeder i got him from. Are you able to get hold of some of these? I fed him 2 and then started to sent rats with them. 4 months later i had my 1st unsented strike. Even last night nearly 10 months on (and 5 weeks since his last feed) he still played with his rat until finally pulling it into his hide and after 20 minutes decided to eat it. you can see my threads here http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2525 http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1986
My normal female was like a dustbin last year, would eat anything given to her (rat one week, 2 mice the next) but for the last 2 feeds has shown no interest in rats at all, so i just left them in the door way of her hide and they were gone in the morning.
I have also met an owner who has to put his royal into a tightly folded pillow case with a rat to get him to eat.
If you can get multi`s then i`d recommend trying them although you need to be careful because they are very addictive to royals. |

have'nt been keeping a check on his weight as he's a fussy eater anyway, but usually comes around after a few weeks, and i'm pretty sure he would eat a mouse if i put 1 in. i have heard about multi's before but have'nt a clue where 2 get them. i'm tempted 2 start giving him mice again as its been so long since he last eat, but dont really want 2 as i'd be back 2 square 1 again |

Multi Mamite, its a cross between a Rat and a mouse, people describe them as chocolate to Royals. You should be able to get some from any reputable reptile shop. |

koreybum There are two other option, its a little bit messy but worth a try. 1.Skin a mouse. Basically get a frozen mouse, and while its still frozen cut off its head and backside with a serated knife, put it into some warm water for about 1 minute, you can then push its frozen inurds out. Then put the skin over the rats head so its fimly on the rats neck. Your Royal maybe fooled into accepting it. 2. Go to a pet shop and get some old used mouse bedding and let the rat thaw out in it. You really need to try and try again, as the owner of a fussy eater, i can tell you its well worth the effort. You will get there. |
