I would not be brave enough to try sticky tape to remove eye-caps, especially if you're not 100% certain there are retained caps. This sounds like a recipe for trouble. |

that is what i thought, dont worry i have absolutely NO intention of trying that! LOL what im going to do about his eyes is this: leave it for a few days (week max?) if they haven't cleared in prep for his shed i will either: 1)contact Julia, see if maybe she can pay me a visit to double check his eyes, 2) contact the reptile chap in town and see if he can come over and double check it, or 3) find a royal python knowlagable vet as close a s possible to me who will be able to take a look. let me know if this is a good or bad plan... |

if i move him back to the beech viv, what would be the best way to heat it? i worried previously that if the heat mat was under the viv the heat wouldnt get through well enough, and obviously i was concerned that if the heat mat was in the viv, he might get burned (though a thermostat may help, it is still a concern of mine) so is bulb the way to go? if so, which kind? ceramic or something different? |

OK. The old brain is a little overloaded with forensic type stuff at the moment but it was Bridgewater in Somerset that you live?
Found these vets on Yell.com:

Rebbecca Bailey who works out of chard and crewkerne is a reptile specialist, however as you are in bridgewater give the collage a ring they do keep exotics there and I am sure they would know a vet thats more local to you.
Ceramic heating is great for royals as it heats the air which a mat can not do....... the hear from ceramics can be very drying though so i move the water bowl to tha warm end when my snakes start to show signs of shedding, this will boost humidity no end. |

oo i didnt realise the college kept them! if i had known that sooner... oh well hindsight is a fine thing. righty oh so when he is on the mend i will change the heating, i will stick with ceramic as i am more familliar with them than the red ones, but i will haveto move him to thebeech one as the glass one is no good for overhead heating, and im beginning to understand that overall it's rubbish for Ra anyways. |

If you do go for a bulb (infrared or ceramic) you will need a guard to stop the snake coming in contact with it and also either a PP Stat or a Dimming Stat.
You can put heatmats in vivs, but cover it with something like lino to stop the snake from coming into direct contact with it.
As above though, a bulb would be better (if your funds allow). |

It's amazing what you accumulate over the years. My garage is the same for bike bits. |

However, if you are looking for a Mat Stat for your heatmat, it might be worth spending an extra £10 for a Pulse Proportional Stat that you can use with the mat and also with a Ceramic when you get it set up. Rather than buying 2. |

oh sorry to keep bugging people, but does anyone have any idea, if he doesnt have retained eyecaps, how long should it be til they clear up? i know it will be about a week before he sheds after they clear up, but when i had him out earlier to weigh him i noticed that he still has lille bits peeling off him, cant quite figure if this is old shed skin stuck to more shedding skin underneath or what, but im certain it wasnt like that yesterday, either way it doesnt look like he is going to shed in one peice just yet. im getting the shedaid either tomorrow or tuesday so that might help :s i dont want to start poking around with his eyes with cotton buds or anything til i have tried the shedaid really... |

His eyes will clear in a few days.
What chart are you comparing him on? - How old is he? |
